Author Spotlight

Welcome To Crimson Pearl  Media Author Spotlight Page

Donna Woods is an author obsessed with the unseen mysteries of our world and beyond. As a High Priestess of the Coven of Butterflies in Lithonia, Georgia, and a Woolston Steen Theological Seminary graduate, she infuses her urban fantasy and paranormal romance novels with magic, spiritual depth, and sizzling love stories. Think steamy heroes and heroines, otherworldly creatures, and the enduring power of love against the darkest forces.

Her "Huntress of the Succubi" series (soon to be a TV show!) blends the supernatural with the every day, creating a world where magic and desire collide. If you crave paranormal romance with a touch of magic, you won't be able to put it down.

When she’s not conjuring up fantastical worlds or reading tarot cards, she’s traveling to magical New Orleans, whipping up delicious meals, or cozying up with my wife Kimberly, our spoiled pup Lady, and the latest fantasy TV shows. We checked in with Donna to find out what makes her tick.

1. Tell us about yourself - a little background about your experience with writing, acting, directing, etc. What drew you to this type of work, etc.?

I blend the real with the fantastical and magical which speaks to my great love of writing paranormal romance novels and scripts. I write about things that bump in the night, sexy heroes and heroines, and stories where love conquers all.

2. What inspired the book series of the Huntress of the Succubi? What's it about, and what drew you to telling this particular story?

I have two loves, magic, and New Orleans. These two things inspired the Huntress of the Succubi book series. The story centers around a family that has been blessed by the gods with supernatural powers to protect mankind. I infused a lot of firsthand magical references into the story line which led to a deep dive into Creole history and beliefs.

3. Did you have any particular filmmakers, writers, etc., in mind as you developed Huntress? Any inspirations or homages you want to mention?

Charlaine Harris is one of my favorite writers and her Sookie Stackhouse series inspired the successful True Blood series. She was definitely an inspiration. I have always loved fantasy shows like Charmed, Supernatural, and True Blood which all have huge fan bases I hope to find that same success with Huntress.

4. Did you say you are creating a TV series based on the book series?

I did. During the planning phase of the book, I had the book read by many in my writer's community. I received tons of emails saying how the book read like a TV series and that they would love to see it come to life. Well, that meant taking screenwriter courses and getting a handle on writing for TV. I'm happy to report that Season One of Huntress was written and is now being shopped for production, yay!!!

5. What are your favorite sci-fi/fantasy influences? Books/movies, etc?

Charmed, Supernatural, and True Blood. And let’s not forget my new favorite American Horror Story. In the book genre, I already mentioned the Sookie Stackhouse series, but I can’t forget about the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward and Christine Feehan’s Dark Series.

Thank you Donna for sharing and we wish you every success with your creative endeavors.

Look out for the upcoming release of Crimson, Huntress of the Succubi Book One it's a magical, hype series.

Synopsis:

Seduce. Steal. Condemn.

That is the objective of the succubi. They walk along the earth, preying on the desires and fantasies of lonely hearts. Perfection is their weapon of choice, wielding it expertly while their true selves are hidden beneath the surface.

Duty. Honor. Talent.

That is the mantra of Crimson DeHaven. Though, she wants nothing to do with the succubi that she has been able to sense since she was a little girl. Unfortunately, her abilities were passed down through her Creole ancestry, forcing her to become a demon huntress. Her appointment doesn't allow her to have the one thing she wants the most, a normal life.

Love. War. Secrets.

These three things alter the course of Crimson's life. When she meets a man who could be the one, she is forced to make a choice. Tell him about who she really is or walk away from the only man she has ever loved. But what will Crimson do when the decision is yanked from her hands, and war is brought to her doorstep? Will she cower under pressure, or will she finally step into her role as the Atlanta Huntress of the Succubi?
