Donna Woods, Author
Donna Woods is an author obsessed with the unseen mysteries of our world and beyond. As a High Priestess of the Coven of Butterflies in Loganville, Georgia, and a Woolston Steen Theological Seminary graduate, she infuses her urban fantasy and paranormal romance novels with magic, spiritual depth, and sizzling love stories. Think steamy heroes and heroines, otherworldly creatures, and the enduring power of love against the darkest forces.
Her "Huntress of the Succubi" series blends the supernatural with the everyday, creating a world where magic and desire collide. If you crave paranormal romance with a touch of magic, you won't be able to put it down.
When she’s not conjuring up fantastical worlds or reading tarot cards, she’s traveling to magical New Orleans, whipping up delicious meals, or cozying up with my wife Kimberly, our spoiled pup Lady, and the latest fantasy TV shows. We checked in with Donna to find out what makes her tick.
1. Tell us about yourself - a little background about your experience with writing, acting, directing, etc. What drew you to this type of work, etc.?
I blend the real with the fantastical and magical, which speaks to my great love of writing paranormal romance novels and scripts. I write about things that bump in the night, sexy heroes and heroines, and stories where love conquers all.
2. What inspired the book series of the Huntress of the Succubi? What's it about, and what drew you to telling this particular story?
I have two loves: magic and New Orleans. These two things inspired the Huntress of the Succubi book series. The story centers around a family that has been blessed by the gods with supernatural powers to protect mankind. I infused a lot of firsthand magical references into the story line which led to a deep dive into Creole history and beliefs.
3. Did you have any particular filmmakers, writers, etc., in mind as you developed Huntress? Any inspirations or homages you want to mention?
Charlaine Harris is one of my favorite writers, and her Sookie Stackhouse series inspired the successful True Blood series. She was definitely an inspiration. I have always loved fantasy shows like Charmed, Supernatural, and True Blood, which all have huge fan bases. I hope to find that same success with Huntress.
4. Did you say you are creating a TV series or Film based on the book series?
I did. During the planning phase of each book, they were read by many of my colleagues in the writer's community, along with hardcore Paranormal Romance readers. I received tons of emails saying how the book read like a Film or TV series and that they would love to see it come to life. Well, that meant taking screenwriter courses and getting a handle on script writing. I'm happy to report that I've penned a Film script for each book, and the Season One TV series for Huntress. They are now being shopped for production, yay!!!
5. What are your favorite sci-fi/fantasy influences? Books/movies, etc?
Charmed, Supernatural, and True Blood. And let’s not forget my new favorite American Horror Story. In the book genre, I already mentioned the Sookie Stackhouse series, but I can’t forget about the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward and Christine Feehan’s Dark Series.
Thank you, Donna, for sharing, and we wish you every success with your creative endeavors.
